Strife on Earth

A flower unfolds, 

Drinks light,

Consciousness blooms,

Rulers and dynasties rise and fall,

Horses, mullets, arrows, fires,

The flower opens on the moon,

Cars and interstates, power plants,

Plastic bags, tangled turtles,

Nuclear bombs underground.

The flower thirsts,

Drinks acid rain, 

Bergs of ice strain

away from continents,

taking whole civilizations along,

The flower dies alone.
